San Michele Arcangelo
Descrizione opera
The small Saint Michael Archangel, armed with a shield and sword like an ancient knight, is attributed by critics, but with considerable doubt, to Ercole de’ Roberti. The very pronounced facial features and the concentrated dynamism of the pose can be identified as references to the artistic culture of Ferrara, deriving from the teachings of Cosmè Tura, with whom Roberti had trained before his temporary move to Bologna.
