Madonna col Bambino in gloria

The work’s spontaneous tone is an indication of the painter’s intimate interpretation of Raphaelesque classicism, exemplified in the figure of the Madonna who naturally pulls back her knee, as if to lean out. She is depicted in the clouds together with the Child, while in the lower left-hand corner, the angel musician faces outwards, perhaps conceived to converse with another musician. The painting is clearly a fragment of a larger composition, which must have included an “earthly” register.
