Madonna col Bambino e i Santi Antonio Abate e Giovanni Battista
Descrizione opera
The figures are divided into three compartments marked by slender twisted columns supporting arches, as if to mimic an architectural structure. The dry rendering and attention to minutia in the figures and the complicated folds of the drapery reflect the late Gothic background of the painter, at a time before a greater acceptance of the pro-Tuscan innovations introduced in nearby Padova by Donatello, mediated in Bologna by the likes of Marco Zoppo and Giovan Francesco da Rimini.
