Il Bambino adorato dalla Vergine, dai santi Giuseppe, Francesco, Agostino e da due angeli alla presenza di Anton Galeazzo e Alessandro Bentivoglio (Pala Bentivoglio)
Date Birth/Death
(Bologna, 1447, circa -1517)
The work is a high point in Francia’s artistic career, and here he achieves a personal and supreme expressive naturalness. Originally, it was completed by a cymatium and predella (Milano, Pinacoteca di Brera) executed by Lorenzo Costa and was offered to the church of the Misericordia by Anton Galeazzo Bentivoglio, son of Giovanni II, as thanks for his successful return from the Holy Land. In fact, he is portrayed next to the Virgin, dressed as a knight and with an unshaven beard, according to the custom of pilgrims.
