Adorazione dei pastori
Descrizione opera
The aristocratic profile of the Madonna, with her veil softly falling to frame her face, can also be found in the work of Parmigianino [18.1], to whom Fontana looked when Giorgio Vasari and Francesco Salviati, both exponents of Tuscan Mannerism, were in Bologna. This is an early work that highlights the iconographic models that were in use in the Raphaelesque school, almost as though to conceal its experimentalism, which was too innovative in the eyes of a still traditionalist clientele.
