The Virgin is seated on the rise in the meadow and holding the Child, who lunges towards the child Saint John. Saint Elizabeth and an austere Saint Joseph, dressed as a knight, are part of the harmonious family scene. Beyond the perspective of the backdrop made of paired columns and round arches, a fluid landscape with a Venetian influence can be seen. Here the artist juxtaposes his own Raphaelism with unusual naturalistic tones borrowed from Ortolano, both of whom share a relationship of reciprocal influence.
