Madonna con il Bambino benedicente
Descrizione opera
The fresco, which came to the Pinacoteca in the form of a fragment, decorated the portico of the church of the Madonna di Galliera, demolished in 1728 to enlarge the convent of the Oratorians. Despite the fragmentary nature of its conservation, some graphic subtleties can still be discerned, such as the beautiful embroidered border of the Madonna’s mantle and the expert distribution of the figures in the space. Painted after his sojourns in Florence and Lucca, in a personalised and polemical vein, the painting bears some relation to the work of Fra’ Bartolomeo and the young Raphael.
