Madonna col Bambino
Descrizione opera
Set in a rural landscape, Mary is lovingly exchanging gestures and glances with Jesus, who is standing on a low parapet. The figures, majestic and robust, reflect the style of Franciabigio, a Florentine artist influenced in particular by Andrea del Sarto and Raphael. Raphael’s Saint Catherine of Alexandria (London, National Gallery) seems to be the source for Franciabigio’s depiction of the Virgin and the solemnity accentuated by the foreground.
