Descrizione opera

The Virgin holds the infant Jesus who stands on a windowsill on the front of which the artist has placed a card with his signature, folding it over to obtain an illusionistic effect. The Child’s nakedness recalls his human nature, the incarnation, while the hands crossed on his chest foreshadow his death on the cross. The mountain landscape in the background and the castle perched on top of a hill are characteristic of Cima, who usually recalls the Marca Trevigiana, his home land, in his paintings.
