Natività di Cristo
Descrizione opera
In this composition, Pupini reworked elements taken from the Raphaelism of Innocenzo da Imola and Bagnacavallo, borrowing the humble tone of the narration from the example of the Ferrara artist Ortolano. This is revealed by the details in the foreground such as the tools of the carpenter, the white canvas sack or the straw bed of the new-born, covered however with a refined red velvet. The elegant formal figure of Saint Joseph on the left is instead taken from the example of Girolamo da Carpi, with whom he worked in San Michele in Bosco (1525-1526).
