Madonna con il Bambino in trono e i santiClaudio, Castorio, Martino e Girolamo;in alto, Cristo in pietà tra la Madonna eSan Giovanni (Pala dei Muratori)
Descrizione opera
The painting takes its name from its original location in the chapel of the Arte dei Muratori, a guild protected by the two saints who came to Rome from Pannonia, Claudius and Castorius, depicted with the attributes of their trade. Their features are strongly influenced by Francesco del Cossa’s methods and, on the whole, by a geometric approach to the space and figures. The work shows how the unknown author was a participant in the culture of perspective that had begun in Emilia thanks to the presence of Piero della Francesca.
