Sepoltura di Gesù Cristo
Date Birth/Death
Pisa, 1470 – post 1536
The panel is signed “Nicholo” on the card in the bottom right-hand corner. Initially attributed to a Nicolò da Cremona, it is actually the work of Nicolò da Pisa, an artist who left his city to work in Ferrara and then, from 1526, in Bologna. The composition is similar to that created by Lorenzo Costa for the same subject [14.4], while the style reveals the artist’s affinity with the style of the Ferrara artist, Ortolano, especially visible in the clear characterisation of the volumes of the figures.
