Toeletta di Venere
Descrizione opera
Longattributed to Annibale Carracci, this work was painted by Francesco Albani and based on models from the master. The goddess, surrounded by a lush landscape, is taking a bath assisted by the three Graces and some winged cherubs. Two women are carefully and naturally styling Venus's hair while the third holds a mirror up for the goddess, seated on a gilded chariot near a fountain. Albani later produced several variations on this theme, reusing motifs such as the winged putto and the fountain in later landscapes.
